Jean-Michel Mercier
Jean-Michel Mercier developed the brand identity for Berto, a new Montreal restaurant from chef Riccardo Bertolino and Isabel Bordeleau. The guiding note is Italian: il piacere di mangiare bene, the pleasure of eating well. The identity draws on the codes of the Italian osteria, its conviviality and simplicity, and reinterprets them in a contemporary language.
The balance is the work. Warm and alive, the identity stays close to the ease and generosity an osteria stands for, while translating those cues into something current rather than nostalgic. It accompanies the experience of the restaurant instead of competing with it.
The result carries the pleasure at its centre. A brand built to hold the richness and diversity of the kitchen, and to make eating well feel exactly as easy as it should.
